Challenge: Filling an executive position for an online company with minimal costs.
"Qualified workers are few at the moment, and difficult to find", is how Oliver Weyergraf describes job market conditions. At the beginning of the year 2011 the CEO of Erento GmbH was looking for a Director of Distribution & Service. The tasks imposed were: developing the client base and distribution area of the online marketplace, where anything from a car to a beer table, a holiday apartment or even a rickshaw or a Wii can be rented. The annual salary lay in the ‘upper five figure level’, and the location was at the headquarters in Berlin.
Although he is well connected in the industry, Weyergraf's ‘personal network’ was unable to help him further in the barren market for sales professionals. "We are a young start-up in the Internet industry with many young, Internet-savvy employees", states the CEO, explaining the decision to use the Internet for his job advertisement. The support of an executive recruiter was out of the question: "the involvment of executive recruiters is usually not very useful at this management level", says Weyergraf.
This situation led him to decide in favour of Experteer. "The career portal focuses on specialist staff and executives. The databank contains qualified candidates only, with annual salaries of EUR 60,000 and upwards. Erento’s CEO Weyergraf booked the ‘Professional Solution’, a job advertisement with an additional online marketing package and drew up the vacancy together with Experteer’s Business Partner Managers. "Within a very short time, many interesting candidates showed their interest", he reported. A shortlist of five candidates developed relatively quickly from over 30 initial applications. These were first interviewed by telephone and then invited to Berlin for an initial job interview. In the second, deciding round, the most suitable candidate for the Director of Distribution & Service role was found. "Our experiences with Experteer are excellent", reports Weyergraf. Has he used the services of the career portal since then? "No. At the moment we don't have any vacancies" he says, but he knows the CEO of an Internet investment holding company, who was looking for a Country Manager for Austria at the beginning of the year: "I recommended Experteer to him immediately."
